If your smile's tooth loss makes you feel like frowning and the thought of dentures brings you down, implants can keep you feeling confident and comfortable. Designed to look, feel, and function like real teeth, implants are a great way to restore your smile to its original glory. Read on to learn how Drs. Kent Molino and Todd Vaccaro in Niskayuna can improve your smile with the help of dental implants.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are metal posts that are placed under the gums, a position that allows them to naturally fuse with the jawbone to create an artificial tooth with unmatched look and feel.

Implants come in two types: endosteal (made of titanium and placed in the jawbone) or subperiosteal (which are affixed on or above the jawbone). If your jawbone is unable to support dental implants, your Niskayuna dentist may perform a ridge expansion, sinus lift, or bone augmentation to accommodate them.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

  • Unlike dentures, dental implants stay in place. That means no shifting or slipping, embarrassing/inconvenient false tooth removal, or sticky, messy adhesives.
  • Dental implants are attractive, giving you an even, straight, and shiny smile.
  • While dentures can cause you to mumble or slur your words, dental implants are permanent and won't impact your speech.
  • Dental implants are comfortable. They stay in place and become part of your mouth, not an implement that needs to be inserted and removed.
  • You can eat like normal. Whereas dentures can shift around and make chewing difficult, dental implants are securely attached.
  • Implants last a long time. They are built to be durable for decades, and possibly a lifetime.
  • Oral hygiene is easier. You can brush, floss, and rinse just like you would with your original teeth.

Say goodbye to tooth loss and say hello to a beautiful tooth replacement.

Dental Implants SmileThere are many reasons adults turn to dental implants to replace their missing teeth. After all, implants are truly unique, as they function and look just like a real tooth. While the goal is to maintain a healthy natural smile forever, when this isn’t possible our Niskayuna, NY, cosmetic dentists Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro understand how important it is to get a dental restoration that is as close to a real tooth as possible.

This is where dental implants come into the picture. An implant is a small metal screw or post that is up to 10mm long. It is placed within the jawbone to take the place of your missing tooth’s roots. In order to get an implant, our Niskayuna, NY, general dentists will need to perform minor surgery in order to open up the gums to reveal the jawbone. From there, a small hole is drilled into the bone and the implant is placed. Once the implant has been placed the gums are stitched back up.

How do dental implants work?

Placing the implant into the jawbone is just the beginning stage of getting your new tooth. After the implant has been placed we will allow your mouth a few months (anywhere from 3-6 months) to heal. During this healing phase the jawbone will begin to fuse together with the implant to become one. This is possible because the implant is made from titanium, a biocompatible metal.

Once the implant has been placed and it fuses together with the jawbone the next step will be to place an abutment, which connects the implant with the false tooth. In some instances an implant may already have an abutment built-in. If this is the case then this surgery won’t be necessary. To get an abutment, we will need to open up the gums to place the abutment on top of the implant. Once the gums heal (this can take several weeks) then we can cement a custom dental crown over the implant.

What are the benefits of getting dental implants?

Since implants function just like a real tooth they offer some pretty amazing benefits such as,

  • Preserving your jawbone and preventing bone loss
  • Preserving your natural facial structure
  • Preventing teeth from shifting into open gaps in your smile
  • Restoring chewing and speaking
  • Instilling confidence in your appearance

Implants are also easy to care for and could end up lasting the rest of your life if you maintain good oral hygiene.

Dental Implants ExampleTooth loss is nothing to ignore. While you may be able to ignore that gap left over by your missing tooth, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues you’ll deal with if you leave your tooth loss untreated. If you are currently missing one or more teeth it’s the perfect time to turn to our Niskayuna, NY, dentists Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro, who offer an incredible long-term solution that can replace missing teeth for the long term.

What are dental implants?

An implant is a small metal post or fixture that is designed to replace your missing tooth’s roots by being embedded within the jawbone. While the metal post itself won’t actually be your tooth, it will provide a strong foundation from which to support a false tooth or teeth. Implants are often made from durable, biocompatible metal such as titanium.

How do dental implants work?

In order for an implant to do its job properly, our Niskayuna, NY, family dentist will need to first place the implant into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. Your dentist will map out exactly where your implant will go within the jawbone, apply local anesthesia to the area, open up the gums and make a small hole in the jawbone where the implant will go. Once the implant is placed into the bone the procedure is complete.

Of course, in order for the implant to be successful one very important thing needs to happen: the jawbone and tissue will need to fuse together. This is a naturally occurring process that will happen the procedure. When the bone and tissue begin to heal they will naturally grow around the implant to become one complete unit. Now the implant is a permanent part of the jawbone, able to provide it with the stimulation it needs from the tooth roots to prevent bone deterioration.

From there, sometimes a second procedure needs to take place in which an abutment is placed. The sole purpose of an abutment is to be able to connect the implant, which is hidden under the gums within the jawbone, with the false tooth (a dental crown).

Once everything has healed we will provide you with your dental crown, which we will permanently place over the abutment to complete the restoration.

Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro in Niskayuna, NY, pride themselves on offering the very best in dental care, whether you are just looking to get a routine checkup or you want to find out if dental implants are right for you. Finding out how this restoration could be the long-term solution for your tooth loss.dental implants

Are you dealing with one or more missing teeth? Are you looking for a dental option that will not only provide you with a natural-looking replacement but will also last you a long time? If you said yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Our Niskayuna, NY, dentists Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro, are here to tell you more about how dental implants could help you.

How do dental implants work?

This small metal post or screw provides a stable and strong foundation from which to support a false tooth. In most cases, the implant is made from titanium because it is not only durable but it is also biocompatible (this means that the tissue and bone in your mouth are not likely to reject the restoration).

The implant is surgically placed into a small, pre-drilled hole in the jawbone where it will take over the role of tooth roots. Once the procedure is complete our Niskayuna, NY, implant dentist will give your mouth several months to fully heal from the surgery and for the bone and tissue to fuse together naturally with the implant. Once this occurs, the implant is now ready to support a false tooth or support even a full set of dentures.

Are dental implants a good choice for your smile?

Implants have been helping countless adults gain healthy, full smiles again and you could be next. Implants are truly the closest thing you can get to natural teeth and they offer a very high success rate. With the proper care, this new restoration could even last the rest of your life.

Of course, in order for you to be considered an ideal candidate for treatment this means that we will need to examine your smile and perform x-rays to make sure that your jawbone is healthy enough to support an implant and that there aren’t any other issues such as decay or gum disease that will need to be treated beforehand.

If you are a non-smoking adult who is healthy then you could very well be a great candidate for implants. Imagine finally having a full, beautiful smile again that you can rely on. Now doesn’t that sound ideal?

Are you ready to take the plunge and get dental implants in Niskayuna, NY? If so, then the next step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Molino or Dr. Vaccaro to find out if your smile is right for this tooth replacement option. Let us help you get your smile back on track.

If you've been considering replacing one or more of your missing permanent teeth, you've probably run across several options. As trained dental implantsexperts in the field of restorative dentistry in Niskayuna, NY, Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro often suggest dental implants as the best investment for optimal appearance and dental health. Read on to learn why dental implants come so highly recommended by dentists and patients alike.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a three-part tooth replacement offered by your Niskayuna dentist. The first portion of the implant is the post, which is a tiny wedge-shaped piece of metal that looks similar to a screw. This is the section that Dr. Molino or Dr. Vaccaro actually implants into the jawbone during an in-office procedure. Over a period of a few months, the implant will osseointegrate, or fuse, with the jawbone, securing into place. After that, it will be time to attach the abutment, another tiny metal piece that connects the post to the crown, the only visible part of the dental implant. Crowns are made from a high-quality ceramic material and carefully shaped and polished to look just like a natural tooth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants have changed the way that both dental professionals and patients deal with tooth loss. They do not require replacement or adjustments, unlike crowns and bridges or dentures; they're designed to last several decades and as long as a lifetime, thanks to the unique way that they integrate with your own anatomy. They also do not require removal or special care for cleaning. Just regular brushing, flossing, and checkups are all you need to maintain your dental implants.

If you're ready to make a great decision for the way your teeth look and feel, it's time to contact Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro in Niskayuna, NY to schedule a consultation about dental implants. You can also contact our office with any other dental-related questions you may have!
